MASTERS RACE REPORT ROUND TWO CONTINUED….
By james.harrison • Apr 16th, 2010 • Category: Featured ArticlesAfter winning both of his Saturday races in the Proppa.com MX2 Youth races at Mallory Park before leaving to contest another meeting,Suzuki GB youth rider James Dunn was at Dean Moor for the whole weekend and he went onto earn the overall win.During round two though it was a case of role reversal on this occasion as Christian Taylor was to be the rider winning the opening day of action before not competing in the Sunday racing. In Taylor’s absence, Dunn aboard his 125cc two-stroke took control for a brace of moto wins to back up his double runners-up spots on day one. After finishing on the podium at Mallory,Alexander Hussey was again very consistent at Dean Moor, earning 3rd overall behind Andrew Smart.Leader of the series after round one was Dunn’s teamate Dan Thornhill. With a 5/6/6/7 scorecard,Thornhill was to be 5th overall at Dean Moor.
In the Moto-Pro Suspension Mini Masters,runner-up at Mallory,Sam Winterburn, went one better to earn himself a richly deserved overall win in the BW85cc class.Starting with a 5th spot,Sam then reeled off an hat-trick of moto victories.Completing the BW85cc podium was Murray Clunie and Adam Darbyshire, the winner of moto one at Dean Moor.Over in the SW85cc group,Casey Connelly backed up his Mallory success with another fine overall win.In three out of the four motos contested at Dean Moor,Connelly was the first SW85cc rider past the flag with the only clash that he was denied that honour being in the second race of the weekend when Jay Hague got home first. After being 4th overall at Mallory,Tyron Cleaver went one better at Dean Moor, making the six hour journey from Tetbury well worthwhile and earning a podium placing in 3rd spot.
Also having their postponed race from Mallory, the Kawasaki Masters riders were in action no less than five times at Dean Moor, again producing an abundance of totally committed, exciting racing as they chase the mouthwatering prize of the loan of a brand new 2011 Kawasaki 250F plus spares budget. The top two at Mallory were Zac Stealey and Tom Watts, and during the second round at Dean Moor, these lads again proved that they will be amongst the main challengers in 2010 as they filled the top two podium places.Winning a brace of motos each at Dean Moor,it was Stealey who was to be the overall victor with Watts in 2nd and a very consistent Luke Spence 3rd ahead of Ryan Pottenger,Daniel Hill and Patrick Collins. There was no real change also in the restaging of the postponed Mallory clash as Watts took that win with Stealey in 2nd,Spence 3rd,Ryan Blee 4th,Sam Mitchell 5th and Collins 6th.
In the Michelin Masters, remarkably three teenage brothers were all contesting, but how did they fare?.Well Scott Smith was top MX2 rider home on all three occasions to earn the overall verdict in this unlimited contest whilst Sam Smith was 7th and Tom Smith 12th.Taking the remaining MX2 podium places were Marc Roe and Tom Davies.Over in MX1,Stephen Tillotson after recording a brace of moto wins and a 3rd placing looked all set to take the overall win. However in the final clash of the day after initially grabbing the holeshot,Tillotson disappeared from proceedings on lap seven. So,the overall instead went to a very consistent, impressive Shaun Scrivens who posted a 2/1/2/1 scorecard with Aaron Lowe in 2nd on the podium ahead of Christopher Rose.
After finishing as runner-up at Mallory in the Scott Leathers Amateur MX1 class,Scott Beevers went one better at Dean Moor.Starting with a brace of moto wins,Beevers suffered a minor blip in the third clash of the weekend before recovering in style to again be victorious in the last moto.Despite consistently being a fast starter at Dean Moor, first round winner Jamie Dobson had to settle for 3rd overall behind Michael Smith. In the one moto that Beevers was not victorious,Glenn Fletcher was first past the chequered flag ahead of George Walton,Smith,Robert Fox,Dobson and Ryan Pottenger.
In the competitive GSP Race Products Amateur MX2 class,Ricky Lethaby grabbed the win. After being restricted to just 19th overall during the opening round at Mallory,Ricky blasted back at Dean Moor with a very strong 1/2/1/6 scorecard.Victor at Mallory,Daniel Brough was again on the podium at Dean Moor with 2nd spot this time around ahead of Darren Carter, also earning another podium spot with an impressive 3rd overall. In the two clashes at Dean Moor that Lethaby was not victorious,Richard Gray and Aled Bellis were the riders first past the post. However with both Gray and Bellis also suffering one disastrous score during the weekend,it meant that they were restricted to just 8th and 9th places respectively in the overall standings.
Completing the Dean Moor Wulfsport Masters action was the Amateur Non-qualifiers.In the five races contested,Jonty Crudace,James Griffiths,Lee Evans(twice) and Chris Corbally took the moto wins with Evans the overall victor ahead of Griffiths and Jamie Ashbrook. This super series now moves onto Whitby on the weekend of the 8th/9th May.
