The AMCA’s Wulfsport British Masters Motocross Championship which is now in its eleventh year is this year introducing a brand new class. For 2012, the AMCA’s British Masters is to be introducing a 2 Stroke Challenge class which will be run solely for riders competing on 2 Stroke machines. The hugely successful AMCA Masters Series has gone from strength to strength in recent years with the likes of Anderson, MacKenzie and Elderfield going head to head in the Pro classes. This all new 2 Stroke Challenge is expected to be super competitive with the prize fund alone being substantial. With 2 Stroke machines appearing to make a comeback, it is the massive oil giant Putoline who have agreed to back and sponsor the 2 stroke Challenge and add a huge product prize pot. The lubricant giant is already one of the biggest in the UK, and is now offering to give something back to the riders! Putolines engine oils, transmission oils, air filter oils (including biologically degradable oils!), chain sprays, shock absorber oils, brake fluids, fork oils and many other maintenance products offer unrivalled protection. The challenge will be open to 40 riders and consists of six rounds running at some of the best tracks in Britain, including Hawkstone, Foxhills, and Whitby! All registered riders will receive a Putoline goody bag, consisting of a one-litre gear oil and an array of other Putoline goodies. The class results on the day will be split into MX1 and MX2, with overall in each class winning 2stroke oil, gear oil, and chain oil. There are also prizes for second and third overall consisting of more oil products. The overalls at the end of the challenge will win a Putoline supported ride consisting of litres and litres worth of complementarily product.

For further information or to register, please click on the following link http://www.amca.uk.com/masters/masters-introduction .Be quick – space is limited and are sure to be snatched up at a double stroke of knots! Spaces are also being taken in all other classes – but are filling fast too so don’t delay and avoid missing out!

We regret to inform riders and spectators alike that the British Masters team have been forced to cancel this weekend’s event at Dean Moor.

Ken Winstanley is currently on site and already various parts of the track are waterlogged, and with heavy rain predicted, we have taken this unusual step of cancelling the event. Rather than delay the cancelation and riders incurring unnecessary travelling costs, Ken felt the best option was to make the decision today. Full refunds will be processed over the coming days and Championship standings will be finalised as of round 6.

On a positive note, registrations are now available ONLINE for the 2012 AMCA British Masters Championship! Please just select www.amca.uk.com and select the Masters link, then Register for 2012. Registrations are on a first come, first serve basis, so be quick! REGISTRATION FEE’S have been held since 2006 at £125 for all amateur classes, and £185 for the Pro class. We are pleased to announce that this will be the same for 2012! Registrations can be completed online within a matter of minutes using your email address and password issued (if you haven’t got your password, just select the password reminder link).

There are some positive changes also to the 2012 Championship, including the introduction of a 2 Stroke Championship, and the Michelin class will be split into two separate classes running separate races, one for MX1 and another for MX2.

By Phil Gee

The final round of the 2010 / 2011 Muk Junkie Masters Winter series at Finningly on Sunday saw some excellent racing in all 5 classes , and championships going down to the last few laps, and in spite of the heavy overnight rain that fell on the all weather circuit , a good days racing provided a fitting end to the 4 round series.

After a wet and messy qualifying , the track soon came good , and the Mini Masters kicked off with their combined SW/BW class , with Ben Harrison grabbing the holeshot in race 1 , from Sam Wragg and Jack Kelly, which he held for a few laps until being overhauled first by Wragg on his 85 KTM , then Kelly , who went on to win .Race 2 saw a similar result, with Kelly again victorious, from Wragg , with Jack Naylor stealing third as the track conditions improved , from Harrison. With Kelly already holding a commanding advantage in the points from William Wall, he could have afforded a poor result in the final race, but although Wragg grabbed the lead early on, he was passed mid-race by Kelly , with Harrison coming in third , to grab third overall from Naylor.

In the SW class Ethan Gatenby on his KTM took the first race from Dexter Douglas, and Aaron Burns, which meant the 10 point advantage Burns held going in to the day was reduced to 5. Douglas took the win in race 2 , from Gatenby , Lomas, and Dee JayWalker, with most of the SW guys coming to grief somewhere along the way, especially Burns who took 5th.

Douglas showed his race 2 win was no fluke , by clearing off ,and with Burns holding a good second place, the battle which ensued between Gatenby and Walker gave Burns the chance to escape, which he did, pushing his 150 Honda hard in an effort to win.

As the race wound down to its last 3 minutes, Burns made a small mistake in one of the deep ruts in turn 4 and fell, and the title was gone , Gatenby knowing that he didn’t need to beat Walker meant that he eased to 3rd and 2nd overall, and took the title, leaving Douglas to take the overall, and Dee Jay Walker to grab third on the best result in the final race tie break from Lomas. Burns ended up 5th on the day, but that doesn’t reflect his commitment in that final race, where he knew what he had to do and went for it, coming up just a tiny bit short.

AMX1 went the way of Kevin Wells, with 3 wins, but not without the attention of Aaron Crowder, Luke Meredith and Michael Reynolds who all took turns to push him in the 3 races , but falls for all of them left Wells to cruise home to take the Overall from Meredith and Crowder. Ryan Bruce consolidated his second position in the series with 3 solid rides to get 4th in the series, and Christian Dicks survived a big wind inspired get off over the tabletop to remount and take third in the points.

AMX 2 saw the Suzuki of Tom Neesam take victory in the first race from Ryan Crowder and Jack Forrest , and Neesam repeated the win in the second , this time from Forrest and Daniel Woodward, whose 88 point haul from the first two races set up a last race decider with Ashley Wilson for the series, aided by the fact that Wilson crashed twice in race one , ending up a distant eleventh.

Coming to the line at the end of the day for the final race, only 5 points separated Wilson and Woodward, and as they blasted away the 125 Yamaha of Wilson got a good run into turn one and headed off with the leading bunch, with Woodward buried mid-pack, and a mistake on the far side of the track left Woodward on the floor , and he coasted in knowing that nothing he could do would alter the second place he held, Wilsons 5th sealing the title , from a disappointed Woodward, and John Hall a good third from his consistent scoring in all 12 races. The race win was taken this time by Crowder, who put in a good ride to ease away from Neesam, denying him the sweep, and Marc Roe who salvaged a third after a couple of problems in the first two races. Neesam still took the overall, from Forrest , who benefitted from Crowder falling and having to recover to 8th , which dropped him to 3rd.

In the MXY2 class Luke Newman had all but nailed the title , but needed to make sure of 3 finishes to be sure, and with the track being seen to claim plenty of fallers , he rode a steady day to bring home the prize, and after a big first turn crash claimed pole setter Callum Luxton and a bunch of others, his approach seemed wise. Rhys Yates led the first race from the start with a good battle consisting of new to the class James Harrison , Jamie Ellis, and James Yates, which kept him honest for the pretty much the whole race, until the battling riders started costing themselves time , and allowed him to ease away for the win , from Ellis, James Yates and Harrison , with Luxton recovering to a creditable fifth.

Race 2 again saw Rhys Yates make a good start, with the Kawasaki’s of Harrison and Damon Brookes , then Honda mounted Ellis and James Yates all in close attendance, but a tangle at the far end of the track left Ellis to hold the lead , with pressure from Rhys Yates, as James Yates fell and struggled to restart and Brookes went missing as well. A recovering Harrison, pulled back onto the lead group making a small mistake , and the 3 put on at excellent race , with Ellis holding back Yates and the now very close Harrison for most of the race, until a slight mistake over a jump cost him drive up to the tabletop, and Yates pounced for the inside line, as Ellis chose the middle in a hope to power back round the outside and retain the advantage, but Yates had almost a half a bike advantage at the point where the two lines crossed and as Ellis tried to check up , he clipped Yates and fell , aided more by the wet sand than the contact, which was harsh on the 14 year old , as he had kept a good pace for the whole race and deserved better. This left Harrison to to nip past Yates to claim the win , with a good final few laps , Ellis remounting to take third from Newman and Sam Winterburn 5th , after recovering from early contact with Luxton.

In race 3 , Harrison capitalised on a good start to pull away and take the win , from a more determined Luke Newman, and Rhys Yates, with Brookes posting a good 4th in front of Ellis who made a poor start and had to pull through . This gave the overall to Harrison, by a single point from Yates and Ellis , with Newman taking 4th and the series , from Callum Sloman and Stuart Owen.
