BRITISH MASTERS ROUND 5 - MATCHAMS PARK
On the 29th and 30th September the AMCA the 5th round of the Wulfsport British Masters Championship at Matchams Park was held. First out to qualify were the Small Wheel 85cc Class with on pole, Bradley Pocock on a time of 1.50.792 in second place was Ben Howell with 1.50.897 and in third place was Dan Thornhill on 1.51.421. Less than a second separated the top three. With the Masters Series leader Rob Muscat out with an injury it has left the Championship wide open for the top eight riders. As the first race got under way on Saturday Bradley Pocock took the hole shot and finished the race in front with second place going to Luke Norris on the Team Green Kawasaki who had qualified fifth on the day. Third place went to Ben Howell on the PAR Homes Honda but there was no stopping the MGP Steel Erection rider Bradley Pocock.
As Race two came to the gate on Saturday Bradley Pocock again took the win less than six seconds in front of Luke Norris, Ben Howell took a consistent third place. A hard fighting Dan Thornhill on his TW Racing KTM finished in fourth.
Race three on Sunday saw Bradley Pocock take the first maximum of the day with Luke Norris in the consistent second place just four second behind and a brilliant race came from Dan Thornhill with only seven seconds separating the top three. The podium on the day saw Bradley Pocock on the top step, second place to Luke Norris and third place to Ben Howell and a good come-back from Dan Thornhill in fourth place.
We look forward to the next round at Foxhills where any of the top eight riders can actually win the Championship so it’s going to be an all-out fight and we are all looking forward it.
As the second group of riders came to the gate it was the Big Wheel 85cc Class with Christian “Turbo” Taylor on pole with his Yamaha CMC bike, in second place was James Hutchinson with less than half a second on his Fox Yamaha third place went to Richie Worrall again less than a second behind on his Suzuki No Fear/Spy. In fourth place was hard-charging Daniel Hutchinson.
As Race 1 came to the gate on Saturday it was Daniel Hutchinson who took the win in front of second place rider Christian Taylor just seven second behind. In third place was Richie Worrall after a good battle with James Hutchinson. Fifth place went to Gavin Corsi.
Race 2 came to the line on Saturday with James Hutchinson taking the win from Daniel Hutchinson with a ten second lead, in third place was Richie Worrall after a great battle with Ryan Houghton on his Huffy Racing Suzuki.
The third race held on Sunday was one not to be missed with James Hutchinson, Christian Taylor and Daniel Hutchinson having an all-out battle to take the reward and Richie Worrall coming home in fourth place. The overall win went to James Hutchinson just one point in front of name-sake Daniel Hutchinson. Third place went to Richie Worrall.
The Championship is very close and any of the top three riders can take first place. Richie Worrall, James Hutchinson and Gavin Corsi. Christian Taylor lost out as although he was consistent throughout the year he missed the third round because of injury.
The third group out was the Youth 125cc Class for qualifying, on pole position was Tom Watts on his Moggstar KTM, second place went to Joe Gregory less 0.300 seconds behind on his Danger UK bike, in third place was local rider Max Trahan with less than 1/3 of a second on his KTM Pope Racing machine. There was less than a second separating the top five with Lewis King in fourth place on his Team Green Kawasaki and Gavin Foulston in fifth on his Moggstar KTM.
The first race of the day went to Lewis King after a great battle with Max Tranah, in third place David Games came through after a battle with Tom Watts. The second race of the day saw another win for Lewis King, second place man was David Games less than six seconds behind, third place went to Tom Watts.
Race three on the Sunday saw one of the best races of the weekend with Joe Gregory taking the win over Tom Watts and in third place a fantastic ride from Marc Dean on his KTM with less than nine seconds separating the top five. Lewis King came home in fourth place and Gavin Foulston in fifth. What a great race to end the day. The overall top three of the day were Lewis King in first place, in second place Tom Watts and third place to David Games on his PAR Homes/Motoxchange Honda.
As we move on to Foxhills for the last round we can’t wait to see the racing in this Class with Lewis King in first place at present but only 42 points separating himself and Tom Watts and David Games in third with 84 points. Any of the top six riders including Joe Gregory and Mel Pocock who is out injured and missed Matchams, could win the Championship.
The fourth qualifying race on Saturday saw the Amateur 125cc Class with Sam Simmons on pole on his Yamaha 07004, second place went to Owen Delaney on his Yamaha and third place to Supermoto/British Championship rider David Hartley on his KTM/Heavy Duty Forklift Trucks.
The first race win on Saturday went to Owen Delaney after a good battle with second place rider Tom Fish on his Murray Harper/KTM, third place went to a hard-charging Luke Meredith.
Race two saw a change in winners with Sam Simmons taking the win in front of Owen Delaney with less than one and a half seconds between them. In third place was Tom Fish.
On Sunday it was a runaway win for Sam Simmons, more than thirty seconds in front of second place rider Owen Delaney followed by Luke Meredith. A good hard-charging Dean Haughton and David Hartley took fourth and fifth places. The overall on the day saw Owen Delaney take the win, Luke Meredith took second and in third place was Luke Spence.
As we move on to Foxhills for the last meeting of the year there is just a four point gap between Owen Delaney and Sam Simmons for first and second place followed closely by Tom Fish in third place with 20 points. Any of the top five riders could win the Championship with Jamie Dobson in fourth on 43 points behind the leader and Luke Spence with 121 points. Roll on Foxhills.
For qualifying on Saturday the Amateur Open came to the gate with James Shaw taking pole position on his Kawasaki. Second place went to Matt Lee on his Fast Eddy Racing/Suzuki, third place went to Shaun Wigham on his 450cc Honda. In fourth place was Ben Smith on his National Motocross Academy Honda.
The first race had Matt Lee taking the win with 17 seconds in front of second place man James Shaw, third place went to Shaun Wigham after a good battle with fourth place rider Chris Brightmore on his KTM.
The second race saw first race winner Matt Lee take the win again in front of James Shaw and third place to Shaun Wigham.
The second maximum of the day went to Matt Lee after a good battle with James Shaw in the third race and a consistent Shaun Wigham, followed home by fourth place rider Jason Smith and in fifth place Chris Brightmore.
The overall top three on the day were Matt Lee, James Shaw and Shaun Wigham.
On Sunday the qualifying for the Pro 125cc Class got underway with Grand Prix rider Shaun Simpson on his Wulfsport/Kawasaki taking the pole position, second place went to Lewis Gregory on his Relentless/Suzuki with less than 700th of a second separating them, third place went to Ashley Greedy on his PAR Homes Honda with only one tenth of a second behind. Less than a second separates the top three riders.
The Pro 125cc race one got underway with Shaun Simpson breaking away from the top three, in second place was hard-chasing Ashley Greedy being put under pressure by third place man Christian Whatley on his JMX/Ruddock/KTM, in fourth place was Lewis Gregory on his Relentless Suzuki chased hard by Alex Butler on his BB Racing/Honda.
When the second race came to the gate on Sunday it was Shaun Simpson again at the head chased hard by Lewis Gregory, third place went to Ashley Greedy with a fourth place from KTM rider Christian Whatley. In fifth place was the hard-charging Ashley Thomas on his Ride MX/Yamaha.
The one, two, three on the day was in first place Shaun Simpson with 100 points, second place to Ashley Greedy with 92 points and third place to Lewis Gregory with 90 points. A consistent riding Christian Whatley with 88 points took fourth place.
As the British Masters moves on to Foxhills it is a three-way battle between points leader Ashley Greedy followed closely by Alex Butler and Lewis Gregory for the overall.
As the Pro Open Class came to the gate for qualifying it was a great surprise to see newly mounted PAR Homes Honda rider Ray Rowson take the pole place in front of Brad Anderson with less that 00.31 of a second, followed closely by Glen Phillips on his ARW Yamaha, fourth place went to Wayne Smith on his PAR Homes Honda.
As the Pro Open race got underway for their first race it was Honda rider Wayne Smith who took the hole shot followed closely by Jamie Law and Brad Anderson.
Brad Anderson took the lead in race two and was chased home hard by Ray Rowson, he was followed closely by Wayne Smith, fourth place went to Neville Bradshaw on his PAR Homes Honda, following him closely was Jamie Law on his Relentless Suzuki.
Race two saw Brad Anderson take the hole-shot, followed closely by Dorren Coutts on his Honda. Dorren took the lead on lap one and led the race for four laps before he was chased down by Brad Anderson. Brad, on his Pioneer Yamaha eventually won the race, with Wayne Smith in second place and third place to Neville Bradshaw. Dorren Coutts came home in a great fourth place.
In second place after the first race Ray Rowson had to pull out due to mechanical problems. Overall on the day was Brad Anderson, in second place was Wayne Smith and in third place Neville Bradshaw.
The Championship moves on to Foxhills on the 13th/14th October with Brad Anderson leading the Championship and it’s becoming a two way battle between Brad Anderson and Danny Smyth on his Wyseco Pistons/Honda.
